Piano lab

The Piano Lab is a premium institute for learning the piano. We are committed to providing world class music education and creating an environment where musicians can learn and thrive. Founded by Srikanth Gnanasekaran, a pianist and teacher of high calibre, Piano Lab also endeavours to promote western art music with concerts and collaborations. 

At Piano Lab our primary focus is on enabling our students to learn about, enter and influence the world of music. Our method is geared towards a specialist, practical, performance-based training in music. Our approach is multi-sensory and holistic and incorporates modern teaching tools that have proven to be highly effective. Regular recitals and a variety of co-curricular activities provide the students opportunities to exhibit their talents.

Our dedicated teachers have a wealth of professional and industry experience and we collaborate with a number of high-profile artists who lend their experience and expertise to the Piano Lab.  Our high student retention rate is a testament to the efficacy and passion of our teachers and mentors.

We are most proud of all our students and their accomplishments. Many of our students have performed at important national level recitals and won in several piano competitions.

Srikanth Gnanasekaran

Srikanth is a pianist, composer and teacher hailing from Chennai. He performs in solo piano recitals and frequently collaborates with theatre companies and music schools. Srikanth studied in the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in UK, where his tutor was Roger Owens. In the year 2018, he graduated with a Masters degree in Music Performance. He is also proficient in composing music. Along with the music degree he also holds a diploma in audio engineering and is well versed in digital recording techniques. 

Srikanth began playing keyboard at a young age. After finishing Grade 6 he shifted to playing the piano and also took singing and percussion lessons. Later, Srikanth began his studies with pianist and conductor Neecia Majolly, under whose guidance he finished his Licentiate diploma in Piano Performance (LLCM) and a Diploma in Piano Teaching (dipLCM) from London College of Music. He was also the leader of his college pop band, which won in several intercollegiate music competitions. Srikanth has had lessons with renowned pianists like Paul Stewart, Marialena Fernandez, Karl Lutchmayer, Mark Troop, Colleen Athparia, Ranko Markovic and Gabriele Baldocci.  He continues to have composing lessons with Douglas Finch and has a particular interest in composing for voice and piano.   

 

Before taking up music as his profession, Srikanth graduated with a BE in Aeronautical Engineering and worked as a software engineer for some time. He later moved to the United Kingdom to pursue his studies in music.  

As a teacher, Srikanth has been able to inspire more than a hundred students over the past decade. All his students have passed grade exams with merits and distinctions. Some of his students have been able to perform in important national level recitals and win in various piano competitions. Establishing Piano Lab is his endeavour to share his love for western art music through teaching, and collaborations.
